Frequently Asked Questions

We want to ensure that all of your questions are answered so that you are confident in your decision to go solar. Below are some regularly asked questions.

  • Core Solar currently has two offices. Our head office is located in Wollongong NSW at 53 Shellharbour Road Port Kembla. We also have our secondary office in SA located in Adelaide within the suburb of Tranmere. This means whether your in Wollongong or Adelaide we can help you with your energy needs, and you know we are only around the corner to assist you.

  • Expanding your system size is contingent upon the amount of available roof space and inverter capacity. If both are sufficient, you can increase your system size or install a second system on your roof. However, keep in mind that state-specific solar Feed-in Tariffs have limitations on system sizes they apply to. Increasing the size of your existing solar power system may affect your eligibility for a Feed-in Tariff. For further information, please contact us.

  • If your solar panel system is grid-connected, it will cease operation during a blackout to prevent injury to emergency responders and electricity utility repair personnel caused by power being sent back to the grid. Nevertheless, certain inverters can be purchased that provide backup power during a blackout when paired with a battery.

  • You can easily check your solar power system at any time. Most inverters come equipped with a built-in display that provides a live data feed on the amount of power your system is generating. Additionally, most systems provide historical data on how your system has performed over time. If your solar inverter is Wi-Fi enabled, you can monitor your performance through a web application on your mobile device.

  • The simplest approach to determining your electricity costs (and monthly usage) is to examine your utility electricity bill. Alternatively, you may contact Core Solar to assist you in deciphering your electricity bill to determine your requirements and what you need to look for.

  • It's difficult to provide an average installation duration without knowledge of the solar power system's size. The larger the system, the longer the installation time. For instance, a 5kW system requires 3-5 hours to complete installation from start to finish.

  • The wait time varies state-to-state since it is dependent on the duration of approval. South Australia currently has the fastest meter approval and installation timeframe, taking 1-2 weeks. Western Australia is the slowest, with a wait time of 4-8 weeks.

  • The roof space required is dependent on the system's size. For example, a small 1.5kW system requires 12m² of unshaded, north-facing roof space. The modular system may be arranged in the most optimal way for the roof.

  • When you install a solar energy system on your property, you save money on your electricity bills and protect yourself against potential electricity rate increases. The amount of money you save is dependent on your location's utility rates and solar policies, but solar energy is a wise investment regardless of where you live.

  • Net metering is a system that utilities use to compensate solar energy system owners for the electricity produced by their solar panels. With net metering, you pay only for the electricity you use beyond what your solar panels generate. Net metering policies vary by state, so do your research ahead of time, whether you live in Sydney, Perth, or Melbourne.
